Staycationing

We couldn't really go anywhere this year for Christmas/ New Year because of Matt's work, but it was really okay since we are going to be leaving later this year and there's still so much to explore in the area.  At the top of our list was the Olympic Game Farm near Sequim.
#6, a little scary!
It's sort of like a petting zoo only with llamas, peacocks, water buffalo, zebra and so on.  So many friends had recommended it, and feeding animals by hand is always a hit with our kids.

So we boarded the ferry to Port Townsend (don't worry, the car is parked and this is a completely safe pic).

It was the longest ferry ride we've taken, so in and of itself, it was fun, though we didn't see orcas this time.  :-(
We hadn't planned perfectly, so that first thing we had to do when we got there was find lunch.  Then we headed down the road to Sequim.  I think the drive would be gorgeous on a clear summer's day.  the day we went was rainy and just above freezing, but that was perfect for an activity like Olympic Game Farm, where you don't need to get out of the car.

It was SO much fun for the kids -- and us!

Matt liked rolling my window down so that the animals would stick their heads waaaaaay inside.

Thanks, honey.  I got totally slimed by the stuff coming out of this buffalo's nostrils.  See what's on the window?  Yep, that was also on my jeans.  Yum.

It was a unique experience to say the least.

Matt also said that this llama reminded him of me when I get hungry.  Again, thanks. :-)

Hi, bear!
It only took about an hour to get through the park, and that was as long as it took for certain members of our party to work up the nerve to feed the animals.

After we left, we headed to Port Townsend to catch the ferry home.  We had about an hour's wait, just enough time to stroll through the picturesque downtown.

Where's Skyler?
It was completely dark for the ferry ride, and we picked up some Mexican food from our favorite taqueria for dinner.  Our warm house felt all the cozier and more welcoming after all the rain and cold we'd driven through, and familiar for a good night's sleep after our little adventure.

And that's exactly what staycationing is perfect for. :-)

  1. I think Elliott, Lena, and I would flip out at a place like this! We have to see it one day. I can't believe I've never been to a game farm like this one.

    Amazing pictures, too. :-)
