Snow Glorious! (and things that never happen)

Well, no, it didn't snow here.  Yet.  It won't either.  I can almost guarantee it because I managed to find a snowsuit AND snow boots for super-sensitive-to-snow Lilly at a garage sale last summer.  I knew when I bought them I was sealing our fate, but I figured we live close to a lot of snowy mountains so why not?

But darn it, it's been hard to get to that snow.  On New Year's Day, we drove up Highway 20 on the North Cascade Loop looking for a good place to play.  While we found some snow on the ground, there wasn't enough to actually play in and we were all groaning about how it reminded us of our trip to Vermont four years ago at Christmas when it was freakishly warm -- 50-something degrees -- and there was no snow to be found.  There were bad moods all around, and the day was only saved by the fact that we found a newly-opened Panera -- that (*sigh*) still hasn't worked out the kinks, and I had to ask for the rest of our order a couple times.  But at least the kids were happy.

Anyway, on Sunday, we got up and went to the early service and

Pause for a second, so I can point out to you the enormity of what I just wrote.  "We got to the early service" means I had a shower, put on clothes other than my jammies or workout stuff, and had some make-up on and my hair brushed by 9:30.  9:30, people!!

*ahem*  Continuing.  So we got home from that, changed and packed up all our snow gear lickety-split, and (after a none-to-brief and rather disastrous lunch and errands stop) headed into the mountains.

It seemed like we drove forever through not-enough-snow-to-play in, and we were all getting a bit deja-vu-ish, but finally... oh, finally we got Sledding Paradise.  I don't think it's actually called that, but check it out.
We had SO much fun, every one of us.

Okay, not such much this guy.

He was terribly unimpressed, to tell the truth.  Maybe even a little worried.  But the rest of us had a great time.

All too soon the sun was setting and we were heading home.  I think it would have taken about two hours if not for yet another super-emergency potty break.  As an aside, we can never make another super-emergency potty break there, even though the people were nice, and one of the stalls was very clean.  But the other stall... well, let's just say we were framed for something gross that I promise you we had nothing to do with.  I know I'm not the only one to have had this happen, and I don't have to go into the disgusting details to let you know what I'm talking about.  (*gags at the memory*)  :-/  Seriously, though, don't you hate it when that happens???  Suffice to say, we made our thanks-for-letting-us-pee-here purchase as quickly as we could, but not so fast as to add to any suspicions, and peeled out of the parking lot never to return, believe me.

Anyway, I think we wore the kids out with the snow play because they slept till 9 this morning.  That never, and I mean never, happens! Thank goodness we all had the day off!  It's been lovely.  And we all -- except maybe Wyatt -- are plotting when we can get back up to that glorious snow.

  1. We need some snow! This weekend there was a ton on Mt Etna but our car is being fritzy and so we didn't go anywhere farther than 10 minutes away. I'd love to go sledding up there, though; it's supposed to be great!
